                                             "The Great Breath"

Once upon a time, long ago in a land much like this land, except the sun never shone.  For you see, thick dark clouds always covered the sky and never, not even for a moment, did beams of light ever touch the land.  None the less, the sun was shining there high above the clouds unknown to the people.

Five races of people lived on this land, and it was called the land of Fog.  There was abundant food there in the forms of mushrooms and fungus.

Great tree like growths grew in shades of brown, black, gray, and rusty red, and some of these trees bore fruits of mushrooms.  There was little vegatation, though what there was, was not green in color but a rusty brown shade, and these things they would eat.  And there lived animals of the air and of the land and sea.

It was in the beginning, when time first became recorded, the dawning of man's emergence.  The time when man's intellect, reasoning and understanding were beginning to blossom.   And when these gems of life were realized, these attributes separated the five races from the animals and giving domain over them.  Also in this process of self-discovery, a difference began to emerge between the five races, a difference that would seperate them.  A form of expression evolved, named language and the written word.

Each race in turn would claim that they and they alone possessed these higher facilities of the mind.  In this way they held themselves exclusively over the other and they worshiped themselves,

each race having its own language, different from the others.

And so it came to pass that the five races called themselves by these names.  The dark skinned were known as the Artist Tribe, for they were great expressionists and they created many beautiful things. The light skinned were called the Builder Tribe, for they built great structures in great cities.  The yellow skinned were called the Intellectual Tribe, for they had great powers of reasoning.  The red skinned were known as the Natrualists Tribe, for they killed game ony for food and never for sport.  The in-betweens were called the Great Organizers Tribe, because they had a little of all the other four tribes combined and even their skins were a mixture of red, yellow, dark and light and this blending they used to their advantage.

They all evolved expressions and elaborate rituals to act out what they saw and understood to be true in themselves and in their great lands, but they could not explain or understand what they truly experienced fully.  In so doing, their actions of worship looked, sounded and seemed so different to each race that it was impossible to tell that it was the same things that they all worshiped.  This brought much mistrust, fear, envy and greed and at times even war and destruction.

Much conflict arose because of and in the way they perceived these realities, causing them to perpetuate action in a way that they believed to be true.

The truth being all along it was the same Great Breath that gave life to them all equally.

For some mysterious reason, they would never acknowledge their sameness, but instead would point out their differences  to prove their superiority.   Each and every race did this and each and every race

could prove through their flawed reasoning that they, and they alone were right and truly the chosen people of the Great Breath.

So it came to pass that the Great Breath of life sent enlightened beings to help the five races, to show them that they were all brothers and sisters which should all live as one family.

Now these Beings were fully grown and did not come to be born as other people were.  Each race had its own master being that looked like themselves and where called the One-Eyed Beings.

The Great Breath created them with only one eye and with this one eye they could see all around them and singularly.  They could see the sameness in all, the same Breath of Life in everyone.

But, alas, this was not enough.  Even when they were told that the Great Breath was so great and that not one race could breathe all the air themselves, they still held to the belief that their race was the better breath breathers out of the five.  Now each race felt this to be true.

Each race also wrote down every word that their One-Eyed Beings spoke to them, giving each race a Sacred Book to prove that their truth was the sole true word of the Great Breath, revealed to them exclusively and that they were the chosen race of the Great Breath.

So nothing was resolved, or so it seemed.  It even made matters worse in some places.

The Great Breath drew in its breath very deeply and thought and thought about what to do, for it would not abandon the five races in their state of blindness to the truth.

Then one day it sighed with Joy for Brilliant Idea was born.  The Great Breath would send a Little Breath, a child, with two eyes as those of the people; who would be magical in a very special way.  No matter who looked at this child, they would see an image of their own race.  If a dark skin man looked at the child, he would see a dark skin child.  If a light skin person looked at the child, he would see a light being's child.  If a red man looked at the child he would see a red being's child. A yellow skin man sees a yellow  child and an in-between person would see an in-between child.  Now this child's skin truly was not skin at all, as in the five races skins, but translucent light, light of rainbow colors.  The five races could not see these colors, for they believed colors like these did not exist in their land. None the less and always more the rainbow light was present.  Now how this child came to be was viewed as a gift from the Great Breath. The Great Breath called the child Innocence.

So whatever the child said about the Great Breath was true and all the five races saw in the child all they believed to be true.  Every one agreed with what they heard and no one questioned the truthfulness of the child, causing peace to fall over the land.

Not even this idea, hower, completely satisfied the Great Breath, for in a way it tricked the five races in seeing only what they believed to be true and not the vision of the One-Eyed, the unity of All That Is.

Nonetheless, they did learn that it was possible to live in peace and that their needs and problems were the same.  Cooperation became the order of the day.

Even with this, the Great Breath was not totally pleased.  For in this way, they would never understand who the Great Breath was, for the Great Breath did not look at all like any of the five races.  Yet all the five races together could express the Great Breath and all Its wonderous attributes, if they would realize this and live in peace.

So the Great Breath, breathed and thought, breathed and thought.  Then one day another brilliant idea emerged.  The Great Breath whispered in the child's ear and said these words...

"Dream within My Dream, life with in My Life,  I set you forth to Me, a Treasure, I must share.      Timless search, always new, you can only point the way,  it is I who goes there,I AM you

and the child understood what to do next.

The Great Breath decided to create a magic mirror, and with this mirror it would teach the five races thye mystery of their existence.  The mirror wad made in the same size and shape as a human.  When one looked into this mirror, a very miraculous thing would happen, depending on how you looked into it and how you positioned ypurself you could see all that the Great Breath had created reflected in it.  Even the five races could be seen, and the mirror reflected them equally, as the One-Eyed Beings reflected the Great Breath's Creation in their minds eye.

And it came to pass that the child brought the magic mirror to the five races one by one as the Great Breath had ordered.  In the mirror each of the five races could see themselves and how accurately the mirror reflected them and they saw themselves for the first time, and they were awed.

For they never even saw a mirror before.  None existed in the land until now.  Here was an object no bigger than themselves and one could reflect all the five races, all the world and evevn the gray sky when pointed in the right direction.  All this could be done and the mirror was not ever affected by all by

this reflecting.  If they reflected a fire, the mirror would not burn.  If they reflected water, it would not get wet.  The mirror reflected everything.

Now of course, each of the five races wanted to keep the Great Mirror in their own great land.

Because what it was reflecting was the truth that they saw and believed.  A great argument arose out of this desire.  The five races now began to act much like they had before the child was born.

Seeing this, the child became worried and despondent, feeling in its heart that it failed to bring unity to the five races as the Gret Breat had wished, seeing this in the child's heart,  the Greath Breath whispered to the child and said these words: "You have done well My child, what you see is not disorder, but a new reorganization of though, a new direction to Me.  This is how the first part of My Idea is to work.  You do not fail Me.  Soon you will see, the five races will learn that It Is I who breathes their breath and I see them equally, for they are Me.  These things that the five races do to each other is their choice of action, not yours.  You will see, when they realize the truth of the Magic Mirror, and when they all identify with it.  When they make it theirs and theirs alone, when they worship it on their holy days and kill each other to have exclusive rights to it.

When they gaze into the Mirror and vomit at what they see, when they understand how insipid they have been to each other and the pain and death they inflicted on their fellow breath breathers, all in their illision of Me, in My Name!  Perpetuated by their lack of understanding of Me.  When they realize their childish fears, they will be open to receive the truth, accept all of My Desire, see who I really Am in all My Splendor and share this Joy forever.  If and when they choose to look My Way."

When the child heard this, a great Joy arose in its heart and it began to sing and sing.  The Great Breath whisered again in the child's ear and told the child what to do next.  And the child began to rejoice signing even louder.  So beautiful was its singing that all the five races heard of this and came to listen to the child, as no person ever heard this song before, and the mirror reflected all of this.  The child took the mirror and placed it in a position that enabled all the five peoples to see it, high on a hill.  This it did according to the will of the Great Breath.

As the child continued to sing, a very miraculous thing began to happen.  The dark clouds which had covered the sun and sky since the beginning of time began to move and part.

A patch of blue sky could be now be seen, a vastness was opening up, a vastness that no one had ever seen before.  A bright patch of blue could be seen growing larger and larger as the child sang, and the dark clouds moved away.  And the mirror reflectd all of this.

The child, seeing this luminous splendor expanding before it, bagan to sing ever louder and louder.

Now only one dark cloud remained, a great sun hidden behind it with its rays of blinding strength bursting from within it.  The light began to beam through the clouds, its power of light boring through the grayness as it evaporated them into luminosity.  Beams of light now extended to the ground illuminating patches of earth.  A beam of light touched all of the five races, one by one and it enlightened them.  They felt its warmth and friendliness for the first time.  They gazed in awe and all were speechless as the miracle unfolded before them.  The mirror reflected all of this.

Louder the child sang.  With each passing note the cloud moved faster from the path of the great light.  And the people of the five races became enthralled in this phenomenon.

Some were weeping, some screaming, some singing, some laughting and a great Joy was felt in their hearts.  But too, there was a great remembrance of all the injustice and insipid things they rained on one another.  And a great weeping of joy and repentance was heard.  The tears that fell to the ground were absorbed by the soil.  Some embraced and kissed others, whereas before they hadn't even looked their way in a time of need.  And the mirror reflected all of this.

Now the child kept singing and singing, until finally the clouds disappeard, brilliance raidiated everywhere.  The sun was visible for the first time, awesome was it's brilliance.

All that day the people of the five races remained there looking and feeling the splendor.  The Fog was gone, as the air was clear and one could see from horizon to horizon for the first time.  And the mirror reflected all of this.

Sunset came, and then they saw the wonder of the night sky.  The sun, or so it seemed, had turned to tiny points of light and a cool moon shone.  It was beautiful to behold.  The mirror reflected all of this.

They watched all through the night with their children, awake at their sides, not knowing what was yet to come next.  And they beheld their first sunrise, again a wonderous thing began to  happen.  Brighter and brighter the sky became.  The sky turned from deep blue to red and to orange, light blue again and then there was blinding light.  The sun rose fully and filled every corner with light and it became clear as to where the shadows lay and also the shadows of their beliefs.  Now everyone was singing and rejoicing.  A movement of people, all in unison, breathed.  And the mirror reflected all of this.

Now, in the morning light they saw a wonderous thing, looking at each other, they saw that they were all red, sunburn on their skins, and they laughed.

All through the day a great celebration took place, and all through the night.  There was singing and dancing under the stars and moon.  And it came to pass, after the second night that the people of the five races waited again for the sun to rise.  Holding their breath, they waited, and soon began to see the sky ligthened and turn slowly brigther.  A crescent of light soon appeared on the horizon.  And it came again, the beauty that loves, they saw, light up the blue cloudless sky.
